Who we are

We Build Bridges CIC

We provide a robust, responsive, reliable human connection between schools whose pupils face challenging circumstances and the fabulous employers and organisations that want to inspire young people from diverse backgrounds to consider careers in their sector.

There are many employers and organisations offering STEM links with secondary schools, but...

School staff in areas of social disadvantage are often stretched too thinly to be able to do the time-consuming coordination to involve employers in schools.

Employers can struggle to understand the constraints that schools work under when they want to welcome visitors.

We Build Bridges CIC steps in to do the nitty-gritty of the coordination between the two, so that the intended encounters and experiences actually happen.

The UK has untapped potential

In England, the further north a school pupil lives, the more likely they are to be eligible for free school meals. More than one in four are eligible in West Midlands, Yorkshire and Humber, North West and North East.

Nationally, of the approximately 600,000 year 11 pupils, 150, 000 are eligible for free school meals, but with the greater proportion in the north.

These students are less likely to choose to study STEM subjects after the age of 16.

However, with support and information about the excellent careers available in STEM, the untapped potential of these pupils can be realised.
