Why talking to schools about STEM makes a difference

The UK, and the rest of the world, is struggling with a STEM skills gap.  If a young person does not know someone who works in STEM they are unlikely to consider it as a career, despite the opportunities on offer.  Even a short talk at a school assembly can plant the seeds of  a previously undreamt of career path for a school student.

Digital Skills

The need for Digital Skills spans most industries, yet most employers struggle to recruit people with the skills they need. School pupils can be put off developing digital skills through stereotyped perceptions, lack of teachers, or not knowing about the careers that are available. If a pupil meets someone already working in a digital role, it can break down some of these barriers.

Engineering Biology

Engineering Biology, an evolution of synthetic biology, brings together biosciences, engineering and the physical sciences. Vaccines, plastic-free packaging and novel materials for transport are being developed using Engineering Biology. The UK Government report: Supply of Skills for Jobs in Science and Technology, lists Engineering Biology as one of the five critical technologies needed in the workforce between now and 2030.
